1. Focus Night:
Reviews video-making technology aimed at various levels of competence. It is held once a month on the second Wednesday except December and January.
2. Club Night
Held once a month on the fourth Wednesday except November and December. Starts early over coffee and consists of presentations by an expert lecture on a video making topic followed by a short coffee break. After the break there is either a practical team workshop or competition screenings.
We have competitions:
During the year, there are four competitions each with a different pre-arranged theme. Teams or individuals may enter the competitions. Screenings are held on the Club Night on which the entries are due. Judging is carried out by independent judges and the results are available on the Club Night following screening.
There is a monthly newsletter called "Electronic Eye"
The Club's monthly newsletter and magazine. It keeps members up to date with club information, what is happening at the coming month's meetings and technical video-related information.
VOTY
Members compete for a number of awards culminating in Video of the Year. This is the Club's premiere short film event and this year it will be held on 25 November 2011.
The Club's Librarian, Graham Sainty has updated the library catalogue and details can be found on the Library page on the website under the Information menu, or Click here for Library
Well what a great VOTY night of video, I hope everyone who entered enjoyed seeing their production on the big screen. For those that didn't enter, I hope you were inspired to enter next year.
Congratulations to all the winners, the runners up and everyone who entered. The range of subjects is always a surprise and this years winner, John Sirett (Diamond Bird) should be an inspiration to us all. His subject was a charmer and so well done. John was able to create an engaging story using great shots and an amazing amount of patience.
There has been a constant concern about judging ever since these competitions started. I believe many of us get too hung up on the scoring. My approach is to accept the judges opinion and learn from their comments. While you may not agree with it, it's how your video was viewed by someone else.
For those members who may be scratching their heads with the judging sheets, read the feedback and take a comments as a way to improve your videos. Eddie Hanham is looking at ways to possibly improve judging so if you have some suggestions see Eddie.
With the club now having some really good audio equipment available for members we need to ensure everyone knows how to use it properly. This seems a logical place to start so our first few Focus and Club nights will be centered around audio. Its often taken for granted but is just as important as capturing a good image. I have included an article with some tips for
capturing good audio in this month's Eye.
Teams could do with a shake up so we are reviewing make up. Geographic location, members availability (e.g. working or retired) was never considered when teams were formed. So there is an opportunity for members to move between teams and work with different people or form new teams. I realise some members may not want to be part of a team and that is fine as well. I have the role of team co-ordinator so please let me know your wishes. (note this is a edited version from the Electronic Eye published in January 2012)
Come along on the 8th February to learn about using the club's new audio equipment and have an opportunity to touch feel and play with the equipment.
Do have any questtions regarding editing, need help with your new camera, or want to khow how to move your AHCD format video to your computer, or want to know how the world works, then the monthly Q&A is your opportunity to ask these questions!
Membership Fees are now due and need to be paid by 31st March 2012
Single Membership - $56.00

In mid 1991 two Australian video magazines carried
a notice
by John Weaver inviting interested persons to contact him
regarding establishing a new camcorder club in Sydney.
A number of enthusiasts turned up at the first meeting
and called the club "Northside Camcorder Club".
20 years later and renamed Sydney Video Makers Club, it
is
the biggest video-making club in Australia.
